Google Page Rank Update! I just noticed a PR update was made. My home page has finally reached a PR 3! It's about time! I'm happy because I can charge more for advertising now. :) My blog has yet to get any PR, but hopefully soon. Check your sites everyone, and see if your site went up! Have a great day, Alan |

Re: Google Page Rank Update! congrats Alan All mine have either moved to or remained at pr2 Now check this out - i have a site that I haven't advertised as yet (I'm still building) - it has no real content - just one post and a few static pages -has only been live a couple of months -the total no of visitors ever is 91 and it has a pr1 ! Re: Google Page Rank Update! Yes, the mysteries of Google. My main page dropped from PR3 to PR2! And I have made more content changes on my home page and added more pages over the past six months than I've ever done before! On the other hand, my blog page went UP to a PR3 after sitting at PR2 for sooo long. Until the past two weeks, I was writing a new blog post every second day. Congrats, Alan, on your PR upgrade! Any PR is good. If you haven't been with the program long then that's a very good start. My site was a PR 2 for a very long time. It's just a way that Google measures the importance of your site. It doesn't effect rankings or anything like that, so for the most part it's not even important. But, when people are looking to do link exchanges or buy links, then it becomes very important. High PR links hold a lot of weight with Google, so if you can get your links on high PR sites, it can boost your PR and eventually your rankings. I've seen PR 0 sites out-rank PR 3 sites, so there's many factors to consider with the ranking system. The most important thing is backlinks, so focus on getting quality backlinks to your site. |

The same thing happened to me. My Nintendo site is 95% duplicate content, but I have over 350 posts to it, so there's a lot of content nonetheless. I have barely any backlinks to it, and I do practically no marketing for it. It received a PR 2 during the previous update, and it's still the same. Totally boggled my mind. PR is fickle and always changing. |

In combination with a well optimized site, I don't think a page rank is a waste of time. However, a page rank on its own is not worth much unless you are going to be selling links. I prefer to track progress by looking at - number of sales - number of unique visitors per day - total number of backlinks Page rank is an indication of the number and quality of backlinks but it is only updated on the toolbar every few months so it is always out of date and not something to get too hung up on.
