Posting daily, using your preferred keywords, then posting these to an article submitter as well is good for long term organic traffic.

The free email lists like sotam, traffic swarm and so on will get only a small amount of genuine interest, simply because the free versions don't let you email many people. If you get the paid upgrades you can email more people and get a bit more interest, but it will still be small numbers, so ddon't expect an avalanche of sign ups. the free versions are ok if you have the time to surf and get more credits to email more people.

Since Google is now encrypting all search terms for free traffic, I would shy away from trying to get free traffic as your primary traffic source. It would be better to get paid traffic and track what is most effective, then go after that traffic in the search engines targeting those keywords.

I use yahoo answers. There are limits to post in this forum but it works if you have a good landing page. Just post everyday for a month and you will see good results.

You can get huge traffic from Google search engine, but you need to write quality articles, longer than 400 words with long tail keywords used in your title, description and content. If there's no competition for those keywords, you will quickly gain no 1 spot on the first page of Google.
Another good traffic source is Facebook. Create a Facebook page for your website and start sharing things among your Facebook friends. Then participate in targeted Facebook groups with your links (if allowed).
Finally do the same with Google groups.
Facebook ads are also an option to target specific user groups, but you need to create a very good squeeze page with optin form to get subscribers.
That's about it.

Well depends if its just traffic from anywhere or traffic that actually helps your organic search result, which helps you in the on the long term. Social media and run a few targeted adds, will give you social signal traffic, but if you are interested in having traffic which help on your conversions aswell and gives you a better SEO result i would recommend doing outreach for bloggers which have relevant traffic for your product or website.
