Question about Affiliate Commissions Vs Website Promotion
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

I have a question that I hope someone out there can answer. Lets say that someone goes to my web site. I think the chances are very high that if the “really like†what they see they are doing to do the same thing I did and sigh up for the free web site. Then instead of buy products from the affiliates, so I can get a commission, they again will do the same thing I’m doing, which is promoting their web site.

So here’s my question. If this is the case, how will I even make any really money if most people are more interested in promoting their new web site, instead of buy products?

Hi Amreen, Ok, Let me put it another way. The opportunity that Stone provides to get a free sit with all the great training he provides is so awesome that I doubt if many people would pass that up to just go to Traffic Swarm, for example, and buy what they have to offer, which would result in a commission to us.

In other words, if most everyone visiting a Plug-In Profit site decides to sign up and then spends all their time promoting the Plug-In Profit site, how do we get commissions from the affiliates if hardly anyone actually uses the services of the affiliates. Or am I wrong and if so in what way.

It is your goal to get people to your website who are interested in starting their own website and then getting them to sign up under you. That way you will get commissions for each person who does.

If someone signs up from your website, each time they pay their monthly fees for Host4Profit (for example), you get paid $10 a month. Of course they will promote their own website when they get it set up, but the commissions still belong to you.

Hi Matt,

Thanks for the insight. That makes since, but that leads to another question. The Plug-In Profit site is free, so I don’t get a commission for a Plug-In Profit sign ups. Also about half the affiliates are free sign ups, so I don’t get a commission for them. Are the ones that are left that do charge a sign up fee enough to make any real money or do I need to do something else. The more I study this, the more question arise.

Hi Ed,

I understand your concerns and yes you are right in what you are saying, you will generally only earn commissions when someone joins a program that requires some sort of payment.

the free programs are to all intense and purposes still a good bet if
1. you upgrade to paid membership
2. anyone you refer also upgrades - you then get paid a commision for these.

The beauty of having a PIPS site, is you are not limited to the programs that came with it......you can add any program you like and promote any product you like. Many such products can be found at clickbank ...it doesn't cost to join clickbank and you can choose to promote any of the products there.....if you make a sale you get a commission.

You can also add adsense ...if anyone clicks on these adsense ads you get paid ...albeit pennies.

If you are new to pips, my advice would be initially, to learn how to drive traffic to your website. Once you have mastered this, then and only then consider paid programs........there are loads of other options open to you.

My final piece of advice would be if you have any spare funds, to join the ppg pips power group....they will teach you first class methods and fastrack your success for sure.

i hope this helps.

Hi Graham,

Thanks, for the advice. It really helps. I’ve been with Plug-In Profit since April of this year. The reason that I’ve started asking these questions is because I’ve put a lot of money on my credit cards promoting my site, such as the Coop, AdMinder, Directory Maximizer and upgrading various other things with monthly charges and so forth. I was hoping that I would be getting something back to start paying back my cards. But since I’ve not yet got anything back, I’m beginning to get nervous and I’ve stated to look for way to cut back rather than adding other things such as the joining the ppg pips power group, which I’d love to do, but I’m leery about putting out anymore money.

Thanks again for you help.

Ed, I would really advise you to not spend money until you are making money. It's a slippery slope and one that can exit you out of this business even before you get started. In my opinion, the best traffic is free from the search engines but of course takes time to get.

Unless I am mistaken, PIPS does cost at least $24.95 a month for the hosting right? Thats a fee that can't be avoided if you want a PIPS site. Each member that signs up for PIPS has to pay that and you earn a $10 recurring commission for each member. So if you get 10 people to sign up under you it will pay you $100 a month.

And Graham made a good point about using your website to promote whatever it is you want. It's yours so you should customize it and tweak it to make it uniquely yours.

Also, be patient. To really make this business work and convert sales you are going to need a lot of traffic...hundreds a day. Do the right things consistently enough and you'll get there.

I can relate to that Ed, it's a shame you didn't read my review on plug in profit site on my blog before spending.

You can always unsubscribe to things and start using free methods only..if you can afford it, I highly recommend the ppg......there is a review on my blog also.

Your only true cost in the early stages should be your hosting & autoresponder...after that, it's purely discretionary.

I wish you luck.

Matt,

Thanks for the advised, especially about not spend money until I am making money. My wife just advised me yesterday to canceling whatever I can that I have monthly charge on until I start making money. So I’ve stated canceling things, except the hosting, of course, and plan on finding free ways to promote my site. I’ve already started to customize my site and am looking for other things to promote.

Thanks to all of you for the help. It's really is a blessing.
