PIPS Redone! Opinions Please!
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

So, after a lot of trial and error my PIPS website has a totally new look, new content, new everything!

It's kind of a plain website, no fancy videos or anything, but that's ok by me for now. Anyway, I'd like to know what you all think of my new site, so have a look, and come back and let me know please!

Home Business Directory

Thanks in advance

Aaron

I like it. A couple of things I would change is first, the Adsense at the top, make it centered. The other thing I would change is the background color. It's a little hard on the eyes.

Keep up the good work.

Take Care,

Alan

Hi Aaron,

Honestly Im not a big fan of the background color. It's not horrible, I think it may look better if you added in margins and set another color on the sides. That may clean up the look as well.

Other than that, kudos for taking the initiative for change. You gotta good thing going. Keep up the great work!

Great job on taking some initiative Aaron and making some changes. Here are my thoughts.

1. The background color is a little hard on the eyes.
2. Your graphics need to look cleaner, there aren't centered in your boxes.
3. Some of your links don't open up into a new window. So when somebody clicks on to your SFI links or others there are gone from your website, possibly for good.

Just keep working at it until you find you are becoming successful. Like I said to start, great initiative for getting in there and making some changes. Tim

Aaron,

It looks good, but I'll have to agree with the other guys
about the background.

I put a template together for you to plug into your WYSIWYG
editor. It already has your info built in, just add your content
and you're ready to go. You can change your background to
whatever color you want. Also if you want to add dashes around
the border just change the 0px to 1px or 2px or whatever you
desire. I have that marked in red below to help you find it. This will
put dashes around your border if you wish.

Hope this helps. Just copy and paste into your editor and you're good
to go.

Plus, make sure that you make all your links open in a new window!

Hello, Aaron:

It's great to see you taking action to modify your site so it is somewhat unique. That shows that you care and that you are willing to learn skills and apply them.

I am another one who doesn't particularly like the background colour of your site.

Also, the graphics and accompanying text is justified to the left, leaving a whole lot of blank space to the right which I find distracting or unbalanced. One thing you may possibly be able to do is center the graphics and text, but also increase the width it runs across the page to about half of what the text at the top of the page is. It will then look a little more balanced.

Other than those two issues, I think you have done a great job so far! Keep plugging away at it.

To make your links open in a new window (and leave your site open at the same time) add rel="nofollow" target="_blank"

as in

I like the way you categorized and your explainations, but I have to agree the background is hard on the eyes. Also as has been mentioned the script to the left is harder to follow.

You may also want to review for typos I saw a few on some of your other pages.

Nice work here. Two things I noticed is that your Newsletter page has different background then the rest of your web site and it is not formated in the same way. Also, on your Software Page for Myfree Classifieds Review you said this is free product while it does cost $99.95, there is only free trial version. Good work

Thank you all, opinions much appreciated!

About the background color, this seems to be a popular topic

I'm not a big fan of yellow, less now that I've been staring at it so long! I knew I didn't want a white backround, but it's hard to find a color that doesn't drown the text, but will still attract some attention. Obviously it's attracting negative attention, so a change is needed.

Bill, thanks for the template, that's a better look for the site I think! Not all one color, a bit of variety!

About the links, a lot of them are not edited, just copied from SFI, etc. I need to go through and test all of them, make sure they're going where I want them to. Same goes for the typos.

Thinking I will find another way to incorporate Adsense, if I keep it. I don't like it much at the top.

Floyd, you make a good point, I think I need to let people know that certain products are trials, to avoid any angry visitors. And the "Newsletter" page is still the original PIPS site page, I'll rework that one eventually...

Well, it's a work in progress, I'm glad you all think I'm headed in the right direction with it! I'll keep adjusting and improving, and I'll keep you updated.

BTW Jeff, what's a good way to make sure a site works well in most browsers? Just test it, I would guess....

I applaud the effort to make your site unique. I also find it a bit too empty in the middle and right - perhaps narrowing the page with help bring focus to the message you are delivering in your introductory paragraph and bring a better balance to the page overall. Instead of the flat yellow background, perhaps adding a little texture to it would make it more tasteful. You are definitely heading in the right direction to make it less PIPS-looking and more YOU-looking!

Well, I retooled the home page a bit, using Bill's template (thanks again Bill).

I think it's a bit more pleasing to the eye, though I'm still having a bit of organization problems.

Hi Aaron,

It looks much better. I like the new layout. The only problem I see now is the spacing between paragraphs, or rather, the lack of spacing. It looks way too crowded, but that can easily be fixed. I would also change the font style to Arial.

Keep up the great work.

Hi Aaron

I also prefer the second version with the white background and would agree with Alan in that you need to add spaces between your paragraphs.

Also it looks like you have everything done in bold font - I would suggest you keep the bold font for your headings and important words or phrases that you want to stand out.

I don't see your Newsletter sign-up form - I would suggest putting it near the top - above the fold - of your site

Cheers for now

Tal, I appreciate the advice, but here's how I look at it; If 10 people came to my website, and 9 of them didn't like how it looked, would they stay? Probably not. So, I have to cater to my visitors. This doesn't mean I'll redo my site every time I get an email from someone saying they don't like it

Thanks for the feedback all, now to get the rest of the site changed around.

Does anyone know of an easy way to change a Blogger template? When I changed it to the yellow layout, it took forever to get it right!

Hi, Aaron:

It's great to see you experimenting, learning and following some of the recommendations you have been given.

I like what you said about it being a work in progress. That's the best attitude to have.

I prefer blue as a background colour, however your page seems very bright to me. I think if you can change the text from bold to standard, that will help.

I use Blogger and I do not know an easy way to make changes. I just go into my Blogger back office and open the template, make changes, then preview them before I save them. As you said, it can sometimes be a very time-consuming process!

I tried making Blogger changes using the Nvu HTML editor but it messes the code up for me, so I don't do it that way anymore. (I don't have any problems using Nvu for any of my other web pages.)

Hello Aaron,

eventhough i am new to this business, the first thing that struck me was your backgroung color. try toning it down right away so that you do not lose business.

i still think you are doing better than i am. keep experimenting with your site because this is area where most members are having trouble.

i try doing it myself and it did not work so good for me. just go back to the drawing board and soon you will discover that practice makes for perfect work.

i just add content and update my site home business ideas and opportuinties

Much better, I agree - however the right margin - needs some space - you have the text going right up to the edge which looks gnarly.

I am also one who believes in the power of red - red being an attractant - not too much but some - maybe in the headline or at various places.

You are getting there! Keep up the good work!

Well, seeing as how it's a budget minded directory, I'd have a hard time selling Reverse Funnel System!

Thanks for the comment

I haven't put the page in bold, but I think the font I'm using is a bit strong!

Aaron,

You are welcome, just keep that one as a template
and you can do all kinds of different pages with that
template.

Yes, it looks a lot better and you are defiantly going
in the right direction. And remember to add your opt-in
form above the fold and Red is a great color for your
Headline!

Good luck,

What do you mean by above the fold?

Also, having some trouble uploading the file properly. I made a few more changes, added a couple of banners at the bottom to take up some empty space. However, when I upload the file and view the page, the bottom is cut off!

I've tried fiddling with it, but don't want to really mess it up!

Here's the page with the changes:

Home Business Directory

If you check the page source, you will find the HTML code has a bunch of stuff at the bottom that isn't visible on the page. And I have a whole wack of what looks to be unnecessary code throughout.

What went wrong here?

Edit: Ok seems I had the code all wrong:rolleyes:, seems to work ok now...let me know if not please! Then I can actually start on the other pages!!!!

Aaron,

Above the fold means, as soon as your
website loads your opt-in form will be
visible.

You can put more than one form on your
site. Top, middle and bottom. Or, Top and
bottom. Whatever you'd like, but the best
results are Top above the fold.

Ok folks, she's ready to roll (almost):p

I've redone all the pages, except the newsletter (gottat get rid of that stock PIPS page!) I'm just going through and checking my links and layout. If anyone wants to see the NEW SuccessForFree.com, here it is:

Home Business Directory

One thing I want to do is add another link menu at the bottom, as some of the pages are pretty long in the new format. That way the viewer doesn't have to scroll all the way up to the top again ( I always hate that).

A quick favour to ask; can someone post a comment on my Blog, so I can see how the layout is working? That would be great. And any other advice would be helpful as well, though I've gotten so much already!

Honestly, I couldn't have done this site without this forum, so thank you all!

The only thing I would suggest is placing the opt-in form on the right, instead of the left. Other than that I really like it.

Aaron,

I think it looks great, it is a lot easier to read
now and it flows very well!

I'm with Alan on the opt-in form; but you should
test it, maybe you'll get better results on the left.

Thanks for the comments guys, I'm pretty happy with the website. Pretty sharp learning curve, getting it all setup where I wanted, but I have a real sense of accomplishment now, for sure!

I have the opt in form on the left because I started with two columns, not three. We'll see how it works...

Now, to get back to promoting, I've fallen pretty far behind with all my attention paid to editing. Now I have a good site, time to get people to see it!!

Aaron

It's working for me, but taking a looong time to fully load....

Seriously, 5 minutes to download the "Software" page. Maybe something with the server?
