Well you can use it to get backlinks at the social bookmarking sites that are dofollow, and you can also end up getting some traffic from doing it too.

I got 160-200 hits to one of my blog posts...

Which service is your email account with, I've found that it usually depends on each services spam filter. Yahoo Mail seems to dump a lot of auto responder emails in spam.

GMail hardly sends any...

I've had that happen to me a few times too when they first started, the scariest part for me was when it first started, and I didn't what was happening to me.

I have an anxiety disorder, it always happens when I'm stuck somewhere like a supermarket queue, or stuck in a waiting room. It's very annoying, but I've just learnt to live with it.
