I have a couple of sites in my native language with backlinks from US/UK sites using native keywords as the one in my sig. Ranking well with that so I guess it proves it works.

I have a couple of norwegian sites using high PR foreign links to them anf they work perfectly. Just make sure everything except anchor text is in english. I even have many articles in Go articles,...
