I would say it's not about your CMS, it's about your server setup.
WP runs fine whatever the post count is... I'm guessing all the following blogs have 3000+ posts :)

GeorgR, I always had a better CTR when adsense links stand out, so you might try to make your adsense links a little bit more darker than your site...

Not sure about this, it might be bad idea. Try inserting start tag before post title, and end tag after the post...

There is, but for complete success you will have to do much much more, e.g. creating more incoming links; posting comments, participating in forums, social bookmarking, submitting to web/blog/rss...
