I've never used Snagit so I can't offer a comparative review. But I've always found the last free version of Faststone Capture to be extremely good. Google for faststone capture 5.3 and you'll find...

You should contact the support team to check but I believe that Market Samurai offers a free trial for the full version and that if you choose not to go beyond the trial, you continue to have the use...

I've been using it for just over a week.
There are pros and cons, I consider it just-better-than-borderline value for money right now but possibly heading towards greatness in the near future ......
