Familiarise yourself with what IM is. Read books about listbuilding, traffic sources, copywriting... then get yourself a mentor. They are worth their weight in gold, but choose wisely. More expensive...

It really depends on lots of factors... One of the best things to do if you are REALLY new is to try and totally immerse yourself in the topic for 30 days or so. Then you will have lots of questions...
