Re: Is It Easier To Write Sales Copy For Yourself Or a Client?

Writing sales copy for yourself is the more difficult
of the two, without a doubt.

When you write for others, you're writing for a new
product. So it's challenging and exciting at the same...

Re: Is It Easier To Write Sales Copy For Yourself Or a Client?

I've found it easier to write for myself, but mainly because my clients so far have been reluctant to really let me see the entire product, so I can only go off what they've given me, which usually...

Re: Is It Easier To Write Sales Copy For Yourself Or a Client?

For me I wouldn't say it's easier or more difficult. I would say that it is different.

When you write your own you have the advantage of intimately knowing your product so you know what it is,...

Re: Is It Easier To Write Sales Copy For Yourself Or a Client?

I would agree with Ray.

I find that when I am under pressure, then I perform better. Also, what Kevin says is true for me too. With my own copy... I tend to 'over analyze' and 'over correct' it.

Re: Is It Easier To Write Sales Copy For Yourself Or a Client?

I think you nailed it right there Ray,
that's exactly how it is for me too.

There's always the time issue too-
sometimes it's hard to give the
personal projects the time you'd
give a...

Re: Is It Easier To Write Sales Copy For Yourself Or a Client?

Like the movie Up, Up and Away (http://www.movies.com/movie-news/dvd-reviews/up-up-and-away/20090810)?

I agree with everyone here. You would think you'd write better for yourself, but the...

Re: Is It Easier To Write Sales Copy For Yourself Or a Client?

Writing sales copy for yourself can be hard. With a client you can sorta see things from above... like a map. Writing for yourself... you're grounded. The solution? Tie a thousand multi-colored...

Re: Is It Easier To Write Sales Copy For Yourself Or a Client?

I write better for my clients than myself because I perform better
when there is a gun to my head. I know that I have to defend
my high fees and my reputation so I give it my best shot.

When I...

Re: How Do You Write Your Sales Copy

Thanks markpocock for sharing the checklist. It certainly is a big help if you have a guide that you can check off instead of just having it run through your mind whether you have done this or that....

Re: How Do You Write Your Sales Copy

I always write the bullets first.

This gives you the guts of the letter.

Usually then a working headline. Just
to have one up there. i'll come back
and write a better one as the letter...

Re: How Do You Write Your Sales Copy

Hi I'm new so I'm just trying to get a grasp on what's going on. In my position I see the headline as an important pull to get the customer to continue on.

I do have a question. Given that some of...

Re: How Do You Write Your Sales Copy

I always start with notes. I tend to do them by hand with a 5.6mm lead holder (love it). The notes will be combination of mindmaps and linear notes. I first try to get a feel for the real issues I'm...

Re: How Do You Write Your Sales Copy

Mmm.

I prefer the 'preparation is key' approach.

IMHO you should already know exactly where you're going. Any inspiration half-way through is either a distraction or something that can easily...

The headline is indeed everything.

Here's the way I do things though...

As I write... I might change the direction of the copy several times. Inspiration strikes, and all that.

So when I...

Re: How Do You Write Your Sales Copy

See, this I don't understand. The headline is your big promise, the big benefit, the big story - it's everything.

So to me, writing the headline after is like drawing a map to say where you went,...

I'll answer, if only to get the thread moving...

they care about getting TRAFFIC composed of BUYERS!

Think about that.

'Conquer'

But like Onslaught has said... "I don't think a word swap would be as good as a re-write"

I would agree with that ;)
