do off page SEO for that particular keyword. Target it in article, blogs, documents. Do bookmarking for that keyword. it will work.

None of them are good ways of getting backlinks.

Backlinks from pages that add 'nofollow' to your link pass no juice to you.

Backlinks from pages that do not add 'nofollow' to your link but...

Try to Focus more on long tail keywords. In the event you decide to use highly searched keyword just make sure that you insert them into your title meta tag description . Use your keywords sparingly .

It does not matter if you have more backlinks than your competitor. Hi backslinks carry more authority because google trust the sites that is linking to him better.
