Some pop under services I have used were absolutely horrible.

Bulk traffic "real visitor" buys were all crap as well (testing this stuff back in 2009 and 2010).

Solo ads from crap sources...

I think traffic exchange sites are the worst way to get traffic. You will get nothing with it.

I agree with SEO, Google specifically. One minute you're the king of the world, the next you're banished to page 75. I can't be bothered any more. I'll take what I can get but not seek it.
