I would recommend you monitor your traffic as well. Google analyics is a good free tool. Or you may also try other traffic analysis tools like Traffic Travis or Majestic SEO.

"SEO Haven" is right. Unless you know from where you're getting your traffic, you won't be able to retain them or increase your traffic.

Aside from having your Ads placed "above the fold" there is no "golden rule" of which position has the highest CTR.

Each site is set-up differently, and you will have to experiment to find out...
