As far as the width issue, you can use firefox's plugin called "Firebug" to highlight the area on your site that you want edited. it'll show you what div tag and css that you need to change, then go...

unfortunately there are no plugins to do this job for you. My suggestion is that you create a "child theme" of the original theme.
