listen to the beeps, then look up the manufacture online, and
find out what the beeps mean. the beeps will tell you if its bad...

Open the laptop(Use caution), there should be something like a small battery. Remove that battery and let it sit for 30 seconds. Plug the battery back in, assemble back the laptop and try turning it...

Recovering the data may be as simple as pulling the drive, mounting it in an external case, and hooking it up to the USB port of another machine.

If you can't get to the BIOS, the problem is not...

. If it will not post then your hard drive is probably OK. if you pull the hard drive and attach it to another system you can read anything on it that is not scrambled
