Hello, I recently have taken up programing as a new hobby and right now i am following some great free lessons in VB.

I want to make a Program that I launch from desktop, That will let me view youtube video's, subscribe to channels and when I load the app up, it auto updates the videos and gives me the option to download any videos from peoples channel i am subscribed to,

I want the program to be able to keep up with the channels without signing in to youtube.

This is a project that I want to do for fun, after I get better, I have always wanted to build this. I found something like this that, let me stream anime from sites like 10 years ago .

Now I don't know how hard this would be to build or if it would be even possible. I don't want a web browser only a desktop app that will load up youtube stuff.

Is the above program realistic if I put the time into learning or is its something that will take years to make ?

This is just for fun and is something I always wanted to do.

From experience, any programming is time consuming. As a newbie, multiply that by 1000.
If you want to work on a project and have time, I would suggest taking on a task that is a little less time consuming or at least work on something for fun that is actually marketable.

Find out how many others would like a program like that, and use that as your gauge.

For me it sounds like a worthwhile product, but it is a question that is probably more suitable for video related forums where people are heavily in youtube.

That being said, there is always that reason to protect your intellectual content. However, too much protection leaves you with more questions than answers.

Research it first. Overall, I would think starting smaller would be best.
    Much success to you.
