What is better cms or lms?

Hey all! First question here. I'm a web developer, not much of a programmer, and I'm looking for some advice. I have a girlfriend, she's a model, and I want to make a pretty website for her, there will be photos, her articles, etc.
Recently I've had an experience dealing with cms, what do you think about lms, like this one? I've already read that this is more easier to use than cms.Does anyone have any advice or better suggestions, or does it sound like I'm on the right path?

Thanks, guys!

I would use WordPress over any CMS in your case.... There is a ton of free and inexpensive plugins to do just about anything you'd need.

Joomla is way more complicated than wordpress! So, take everyone's advice and use wordpress. You can find a ton of free themes, free plugins, even tutorials on how to modify this and that, on the website. Good luck!

Though both academic and corporate learning have gone the electronic way, an LMS and a CMS cannot replace each other because of the disparate learning activities that they support. It is necessary to understand that education is gaining long term knowledge while training is gaining knowledge for immediate application. Therefore, a CMS supports long term classroom sessions, while an LMS supports a number of short training events.

In my opinion, WordPress is a better CMS as it is easy to use and you can design any kind of website using this CMS. There is an additional resource TemplateToaster, to get the themes (or templates) developed. You can use this web designing software. You can easily generate responsive websites using this software. It provides you bootstrap feature, SEO functionality, etc. You may try its free trial version before buying it.

For what you want to achieve, it is more recommended to use a CMS.

WordPress will do this job. It can be easily customized with plugins and custom themes, it's user friendly and has a great development community behind. You can create a blog, photo galleries and anything you can think of with it.

I have never used a LMS, but the name suggests that it is mostly for learning management sites and might not have all the desired features for your task.

WordPress is the ultimate for what you are trying to do! but...

To simplify things, why not start a fan page or group on Facebook and post the images and articles there.

Flickr is another great place to get exposure.

Social media traffic will get your girlfriend ranked in the search engines quicker (and then you can link your new website from there for increased traffic)

I see the threat is quite old, but in the case any others want one more good answer.
WordPress CMS, let's say that for now, is what you are looking for, not a LMS.
But in the case you want a free WordPress LMS plugin, LearnPress is a good choice, it's free and listed on the official WordPress Plugins Repository.

You're confusing the two. A CMS is content management system. A LMS is a learning management system. An LMS can have features that you would find in a CMS so the comparison is not right.

It really depends on what features or functionality do you want the website to have.

If the website is geared towards online education / training then you may have to consider LMS.

If your website is NOT heavily geared towards online education then you could consider using a CMS such as wordpress.

    Drawbacks of a CMS
    Less flexibility
    Inefficiency in providing interactive e-learning
    Inefficiency in testing and tracking
    So go to use IMS

Using an LMC enables companies to create different tracks of training courses to deliver to different groups of employees in order to fulfill their specific training objectives - creating a customized learning program for each employee, as needed.
CMs functions allow distributors to decide which content is displayed privately or publicy. Content can be easily tagged using metadata, which is best for searching and using content quickly and efficiently. Drupal and WordPress are popular content management systems used to create all kinds of websites. As opposed to a CMS, a learning CMS is specialized for the creation and management of learning content.

King Products, Learning management system offers a lot of plugins to enhance the users' experience. King Products also offers a free version of the LMS. Check out the free version for trial. You would also get an excellent support from the team.

There are different CMS platforms available in the market to develop websites like Joomla, WordPress, Magento etc.

But WordPress is considered best for eCommerce website development. It is usually famous for the following reasons:

    1. Fast installation: The installation process for the WordPress is very easy and it only take 5 minutes to prepare the IDE ready for development .

    2. Very low learning curve: Learning to develop in WordPress is very easy.

    3. Rich and free themes and plug-ins: It has a huge collection of free themes and plugins. You can easily create a professional and clean looking website in a very short time. The plug-ins are easy to add and remove.

    4. Large community support: It has a very large community of developers and designers. The community is constantly expanding. The large community means more developers to help you with the development, if you come across any issues while development.

For the projects that I've worked on, it depends on the size and functionality that the client requests. If they just want a CMS-esque system that they can update content easily, with few people using it, I would use Wordpress, have it themed and off they go.
If they wanted more granular permission structures (aka certain users only have rights to upload images, etc..), other features like forums, or multi-site configurations to name a few, I would move more to a CMS like Drupal or Joomla.
Now the new changes to Wordpress will negate some of that (multi-site config mostly), but there's still a divide. If it's a smaller site for say a local realtor or small business Wordpress would be my choice. For something like an online magazine I'd look at the other options outlined above.

Learning Joomla in my opinion is no different than learning WordPress ...

I prefer Joomla; I use both, Joomla and WordPress because there are some apps/plugins etc that don't exist on both platforms.

For what you want to accomplish, I would look @ RocketTheme.com and go with Joomla.

It doesn't take much to become a wizard on either WordPress or Joomla, and in my opinion it's best to know how to use both of them because they both have powerful features that the other may be lacking.

A content management system (CMS) is simply an application that allows a method for managing content from a central location. Users with appropriate permissions can edit, add, and view content, while those with lower level access can only view the content. These systems are very helpful with managing versions of a document and centralizing all aspects of something in one place. Everyone can relate to a time when multiple users made changes to a document only to find out after publication that at least one version of changes didn't make it through to the final version. A content management system helps prevent those issues so that everything is transparent (including who made changes) and stored in one place.
