What program does everybody use to write their WSO's?

Hi,

I was wondering if there was a free software to use to change word files into .pdf.

  • OpenOffice.org does a great job of importing word docs and exporting them as PDFs. You can also use it instead of Word, as it's a full featured word processor. It also comes with other office suite components such as spreadsheet, presentation, and database programs (like Excel, PowerPoint, Access). It's completely free from OpenOffice.org.

    • On Word 2007 under Add-ins Tab there's a "Save as pdf" option.
  • As far as I'm aware, Word doesn't make the links in a PDF clickable. I don't have the newest version, but that was how it worked with whatever version I have installed. Openoffice.org is the best solution.
  • Get bullzip pdf or primo pdf which are free virtual printer drivers. Install and then you can print your doc to a pdf printer and voila!
  • Ditto for OpenOffice.

    It's the easiest, cheapest, and most straight-forward solution you can use.

  • You could also upload .docs or whatever into google docs and the download them as PDFs.
  • I got the online tool to convert .doc to .pdf. Convert MS Word (doc) files to Adobe Acrobat files (pdf) for free. No login required.

  • Nuance PDF Converter is a nice piece of software and yea Open Office is always there ..

    Word 2k7 allows you to save as pdf and thats what i have done till now till i bought nuance PDF converter.

    Probably the most important question for an WSO writer is, do links get translated to clickable links in the resulting PDFdocument? So far we have had 'NO' for Word 2007, and probably true for earlier versions as well. Can those experienced with the other PDF converters listed above answer 'yes' or 'no' for live linking in these other programs?

    • When I first investigated this question a few years ago, the only one that gave a reliable YES was OpenOffice. I don't know whether or not any of the other options have improved, since I've used only OpenOffice for making PDFs from that day forward.
