Copy the source code from tutorial sites for my website?

Hi,

I'm planning to create my own website. I'm still at the basic level of PHP so I don't exactly know how to create a poll. I want to copy the code from w3schools and use in my website. My website is actually a polling site....so can i go ahead?

Also, after few years, would like to sell my site online... will my site break the TOS ?? Or should the coding be completely my own ?!

I just wanted to copy the basic poll code, remaining HTML/CSS and JS will be mine !

Thank you

From a legal perspective, I'd review the terms posted on the site. A site like W3schools probably doesn't mind, seeing as their whole purpose is to show people how to do things, but I'd still check.

From a coding perspective, realize that there's more than PHP involved; you will probably need a MySQL database (for which you would use the PDO interface).

Change the code round and there's little evidence that you actually copied it. Stealing it is the main problem, using the same idea is not a problem, unless it's patented.

W3schools provides tutorial code for free. The code from which the site itself operates, however, isn't. Site code is copyrighted just like writing, artwork, and music.
