HELP!...how do I stop my old home page from displaying?

Hi,

I any one could help me i would be very grateful.

I have a domain which I only set up 1 static page on. Now in the public_html directory I had this as home.html.

I have tried to delete this html file and install wordpress but on certain different computers that i type in my domain, some will show the new wordpress blog and some will show the old static homepage.

I can't understand why this is happening because I have cleared the browsing caches on those showing the old and as there is no trace of the old homepage in the directory, why is it still displaying?

Is there anyway you can completely reset your hosting files to how they were before anything was uploaded?

Thanks,
Si

FTP (filezilla etc) into your site and verify that the file has been removed and there is no Htm (without the L) version. It is a curious problem. There is no undo on a server. Your host may have a backup but I don't think its a serious enough issue to bother with that. More than likely its something simple like a file is still there or there is a cache problem. If you want you can state the domain and we can test it for you.

Well, the differing behavior on different computers proves that it's a browser caching issue. Even though you've cleared the caches, browsers are inconsistent in exactly how they handle caching.

On those computers try forcing a page refresh from the server by using the Ctrl-F5 key combination. This works in many browsers, including Firefox, IE, and Chrome. The Refresh button on its own doesn't force the browser to go back to the server.

    I agree with Steve.

If indeed that page no longer exists on your server (after verifying as nontemplates suggested), then it's definitely a browser issue.

That's why when I update my clients' websites, I always ask them to clear their cache and refresh the page to view the new changes.

On some browsers, maybe they are not set to refresh automatically and fetch the new changes

I had this problem once before, all I did was clear the cache and everything was fine.
I think you should do that too.
