Trouble joining this type of forums. What's the problem?

I've had problems trying to register this type of forums. The problem is actually the CAPTCHA thing where you have to type in the image that you appears.

I've tried typing in and submitting the right word but it says that I've typed in the wrong word. Tried clearing cookies /cache but I still face the same problem.

Is it just me or there is a problem with these type of forums?
Also, what is it being powered by?phpbb?

    The problem with the Captcha stuff (Yes, I just had to try 6 times to get my password changed!) is that some folks with twisted minds but some computer ability love to set up scripts that automatically do things, make requests, etc. to the point of overloading and crashing servers.

    The Captcha step is to sort out the jokesters' machines from real people.

    Now, the technology of writing better programs for computers to read Captcha characters keeps improving, so the text has to be harder and harder to read to stay ahead of the character reading programs.

    This means that it gets harder for people to pass the test also. The more technically inclined forum groups, like this one, are a challenge to the jokesters and they try harder. Thus the Captcha images have to get trickier to stay ahead of them.

    It's nothing personal against you or any of the people here... it's just a factor of the times we live in and the places where we are meeting!

      I was about to ask the same question, i've had enough of it too... others would have to ask are you a real human? then the captcha thing appears... I just can't imagine how many times do i have to prove, im indeed a human... LOL
