Step One: Make sure you have a multi-million-dollar budget for an enormous TV ad campaign, so that you can try to sway people from market leaders like Kayak, or at least maybe get them to remember your name... maybe.

This site was not created by just one person.

In any case, if you want to create a site like Trivago, using the same tools they used, you need to learn:
    • PHP
    • Backbone.js which is a JavaScript framework with a RESTful JSON interface
    • Underscore.js
    • jQuery
This should keep you busy for a while.

If you're truly serious, talk to a real software development team, and expect to pay tens-to-hundreds of thousands of dollars. I might consider the job, myself, except I'm already way overbooked.

With all due respect, Sir, you're simply not getting it. Several of us here are all saying the exact same thing: What you propose is a seriously large undertaking, and you keep coming back asking if your kid's pack of tinkertoys is going to be enough to build that skyscraper. If you're not willing to pay a development team that can do this for you for five or six figures, you have a very steep learning curve ahead of you. You can start with this manual:
MySQL :: MySQL 5.7 Reference Manual

You should start by learning html/css. Html/css is very easy so you can learn it fast but in the same time start learning a back-end language like Python, Ruby, or PHP. Unlike html, this is not easy. It will take time.

If you keep learning and practicing 2 - 3 hours a day everyday for about 2 years you will be pretty good at it but that still doesn't mean that you will just sit down at your computer and build a site like Trivago all by yourself.

In any case, start learning and see if you like programming.

Trivago are a worldwide organisation. If you are serious about breaking into this business I would start with a local version and work from there. If you are not technical spend your time learning how to build a wireframe of your website and app and outsource the building of both.

For sure this is high quality website it's not some cheap fiverr quality. I'm not sure how much would that cost, but for sure it's expensive.

Keep in mind "The site compares prices for over 730,700 hotels from more than 200 booking sites, such as Expedia, Booking.com, Hotels.com and Priceline.com"

Well, I always believe that everything is possible. So, I won't discourage you or tell you that you can't do it! Where there is a will there is a way. But you must really judge your motive for doing this.

Find out why you want to do this and what difference you want to make that they are not already making.

It is hard! But not impossible! so here are the only two options you have!

      1. You must really be darn good at programming to achieve your goal if you want to do it yourself. You can devout this year to learning programming, take courses from Code.org, code academy, Udemy, CS50 etc. respectively.

While doing this, keep working on it! You can look for partner or Co-founder if you really believe in this project

      2. You can find a good programmer to code it up for you! or software firm. Or you can just start small and like someone suggested above, target your local community!

One thing you must know is you should start small and know that there will definitely be failures.

I would suggest you go to a website like codecademy.com and learn the code (if you don't already know it). From there, you can build any site you want!

To be sure to let you understand:
using CMS and HTML compared to learning any dynamic programming language is like opening a can of beans compared to be a restaurant chef.

It is not an easier task. You must have to get a guide for creating a good site.

You can use Wordpress guide for the best positive results.

You could build a site with the kind of functionality yourself. The technical part is not impossible at all. However as others have pointed out it s not practical because of the competition and you need more than programming (Agreements with other hotels and how to get paid, advertise etc.). That model of business is not a one man operation - Thats what makes it difficult and near impossible to compete with hotel sites like that. Plus by the time you have it done working solo the other sites would have improved by leaps and bounds.

Plus you'd need a world class infrastructure behind you to handle load (if you ever got it).

Unfortunately on WF thats not such a far out idea because everyone swears on WP for any and everything. Its just absurd that people see no large major site running WP for services like that but think they are going to wire together some plugins and have a hit.

This is an other totally surreal post...what is going on? Hiring someone on Fiverr to build a site like Trivago? I hope this post will be removed soon. I somehow don't think you're allowed to post a URL to promote your self here like this.
