I placed an order at renat a coder for a keylogger program like Spector Pro Keylogger . Are there any warriors that could handle a job like this and what do you think it should cost?

  • To do it really well, so it works as easily and reliably as Spector Pro with all the same features, I wouldn't take it on for a penny less than $75,000.

  • How long woulkd a project like that take?

    • Elapsed time? Or person-hours?

      Here's my extremely rough, somewhat optimistic, back of the envelope calculation of person-hours. The elapsed time would depend on the size of the team and the quality of the project management.
      • Create detailed requirements document: 60 hours
      • Create high-level software architecture design: 40 hours
      • Create detailed technical specification (and I do mean detailed): 120 hours
      • Write code to specification (assumes some very experienced C# jockeys): 250 hours
      • Integration testing (initial alpha testing) and debugging: 40 hours
      • Installation testing in multiple environments (alpha testing): 60 hours
      • Beta testing and debugging in multiple environments (depends on how much debugging is needed): 80 hours
      • Produce and test final release candidate: 40 hours
      • Write end-user documentation: 60 hours
      Total: 750 person-hours, plus project management and other administrative overhead. Call it 900 person-hours altogether. With an efficient team of 3 or 4 allowing for some overlap, 4 to 6 months elapsed time.

      My gut is telling me that these numbers are probably very optimistic indeed. But hey, there could be a genius intuitive coder who could just whip it out without going through so much formal definition. I'm not sure that the result would be very pretty, but anything's possible.

      A lot of people want to do it like that, the cheap way. How can you prove and guarantee that you will be able to sell and get me all the money that was invested into development back?

      Spector Pro Keylogger wasn't developed over the night. Its been in development for years. Do the costs math yourself.

      Steve gave you a very nice overview and I have to agree with him and the price he set. Bit low price for final product but starting point for talks to start..

    I have found a very reputable sofware engineer that worked on creating a computer forensic program that I use all the time.
    We are in negotiations for a joint venture.
    I'm very excited. I believe the product we come out with will have some very attractive additions and improvements to the most popular keylogger programs that are out there now.
