Private Nameverser Help for Dedicated Server

Sorry if this post isn't in the right location, but I'm hoping someone with some experience can help me out here.

I've just purchased a dedicated hosting server since my site has grown too big to be on shared hosting.

I'm trying to move my Wordpress site to the new host, while keeping the SAME domain name.

I went into my domain name registrar (Dynonames...interface is similar to GoDaddy's), clicked on the domain name, went into "Host Summary" and added my two nameserver entries...

ns1.mydomain.com --> 123.456.789.987 (my new dedi IP)
ns2.mydomain.com --> 123.456.789.988

I did this first thing this morning and then I went into my blog's domain name and changed THOSE nameservers to...

ns1.mydomain.com and
ns2.mydomain.com

Still, when I go to my blog, it appears to still be on the OLD reseller hosting account.

Here is where it gets strange.

When I do a "whois" on my blog, I can see that the "domain servers" listed are now, in fact:

ns1.mydomain.com and
ns2.mydomain.com

BUT the actual IP address shown is, say,

555.555.555.555 (my old reseller IP) instead of

123.456.789.987

Have I screwed something up royally or does it just need more time?

It seems like when I would change the nameservers before, it would happen almost instantly.

This seems to be taking a very long time AND the nameservers seem to be correct, it's the IP address that has not changed yet.

My site has outgrown the reseller account so Hostgator shut it down two days ago. I still have to figure out how to export and import the Wordpress databases, etc...at this point I'm tempted to just hire someone.

Anyway, I'm getting anxious about having the site down for so long.

    In my experience name server changes can take anything up to 72 hours to propogate to DNS servers globally.

    I'd give it more time.

    Your nameservers are fine. Just go ahead and move the site to the new server. If you want to hire someone to do it for you I am available tonight to do so. Just need access to the new server WHM and the old HG account.

        had this very same issue once...it can be that the issue is 'inside' your computer and not with the DNS, hosting, IPs, etc.

        what CAN happen is that your computer has 'remembered' the IP info of the prior setup, and will try to resolve to the 'old' settings, and go to the prior hosting.

        add in that it can sometimes take up to 3 days for ALL of the various nodes on the internet to get updated if your site has some age. you may end up at your new server one time, and 20 minutes later when you go to log in? you will be 'pathed' from your computer to your server by a different route and things will go crazy.

        so aside from waiting another day...you should also clear your computer's dns cache.

        if you are in windows run the command prompt and type "ipconfig /flushdns" (without the quotes)

        macs: open a 'terminal window' -> and type:
        on older macs "lookupd -flushcache"
        leopard "dscacheutil -flushcache" (again without the "quotes")

        and (hopefully) you should not have an further problems.

    you have register that nameservser ip with your domain, its very simple
    then you have to add that ip and nameserver to your whm, if you have any further problem pm me i will help u
