Recovering content from pages/posts

I hope I've posted this in the right place people and please tell me if I haven't.

I have a client who created her WP blog then started moving the actual files around using Filezilla and of course "broke" it completely and now can't even get into the dashboard to recover the info from the posts/pages that were already in there.

So when in Filezilla, is there a way of finding the files that hold this info?

Going to Hostgator to recover them isn't an option because it was all done on the same night.

Thanks in advance for your help!

  • The posts (i.e. content) would be stored in the MySQL database - so login to cPanel, go to "Backups" and download the MySQL database (this will mean that all the content is saved and backed up)

Then restore an old backup (which will restore the files to the right way); your host should be able to do this for you no problem.

But yeah, don't worry since your pages and posts aren't harmed. They are locked safely away in the MySQL database which can be accessed and backed up via cPanel

    • Thanks so much for your help. Hopefully that'll do the trick! Will see if we can sort it out tomorrow for her.
  • You're welcome It's always tricky at first, but as long as you remember that the database/content is there, and it's just some files which have been messed up, then it's usually not as bad as it first seems
  • Not as bad at all - my client is going to LOVE me today!
