I am currently working as a web developer for a SaaS product so I am just a part-time freelancer even though, my job does allow me to feel like a freelancer.

Working from home when I want to, etc.

For my part-time freelancing, I am mainly a WordPress developer. I started working on UpWork, but after a year of trying that platform and building up my skills I applied on Toptal and Codeable. Both successful.

My blog ibenic.com also helps me to get some clients, when I am not overbooked.

I would suggest trying out some freelance platforms to see if that suits your workflow. Also, a website can really help you in getting new clients.

What I have found out in the last year that Social Media can also help you there. Mostly, Facebook groups that are active and have both types of members (freelancers & clients) can get you new jobs.

3 steps is all it takes. Make sure you do them in the correct order.

    1. Do excellent work all the time. Go above and beyond the call of duty. Imagine that you're going to be working for your client for 10 years.

    2. Do everything possible to make your client confident that you are going to do such a great job that they will be an absolute hero in the eyes of the friend or colleague they referred.

    3. Ask for referrals.

Whatever happens, don't offer incentives to give referrals. No-one cares about incentives; they just want to be a hero.

Try it by all means. But most people will (even subconsciously) weigh up the risk of you screwing things up and making them look bad to their friend, and decide that it's not worth $10.

To get reward as referral from your existing clients, you need to deliver the great work for which you hired and always offer great support. If any client is happy then surely he/she will tell with other for your work.
