can wordpress do this? or other recommendations?

I would like to create a site where anyone can come post. Somewhat like a blog but I want people to not have to register to be able to post and to have the area where they'd create their post just right on the front page with the last 5-10 posts above it. Ideally I'd like to allow commenting, tagging and rating of posts as well.

is there any single software or base software with plugins that you could recommend for this? I'm most familiar with WP and since it is somewhat like a blog, just open to everyone, that is my first thought because it would be easiest for me to implement. I'd also thought about drupal but I've struggled with that and I'd like to hit the ground as fast as possible rather than having a huge learning curve.

    I haven't used this so have no idea if it will do what you want. You could also set up a contact form that gets emailed to the email address that automatically posts to your wordpress blog.
  • This would be really easy to do with Joomla, except for that it requires registration. You can set it up so that all registered users are authors, and then you approve the content.

    I haven't used the plugin, but the one that WealthSquad posted is supposed to do what you are looking for with Wordpress.
  • You'd need some sort of Wordpress Plugin to achieve this - but it's certainly possible.

    My only concern would be by not requiring registration, you'd potentially open your site to be blogged on by anyone - including those who wish to spam and push their own web site links etc.

    You can setup a form that will send post data to your 'Post via e-mail' account..
    Simple and easy as that
