How to add banners to Wordpress

I just had a blog created for me but I need to add some banners to it and I don't have any idea how to do it. If someone can help in plain, easy to understand terms, lol, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

  Where are you wanting the banners to show up? I just helped a client add banners in the right-hand rail by utilizing a text widget. They didn't need the banner to rotate or change often. It was a static image with a custom affiliate link. It took all of 1 minute to implement.
