Hi there, so I am kind of a newbie with wordpress, but so far I've been able to find decent support for everything I am trying to do. Either from webages or blog post I've been able to find what I was looking for...until now.

I'm trying to use a wordpress plugin "Random Featured Post". I've installed and activated it. Now I need to add some sort of code, but I ma not sure where, here are the instructions; Random Featured Post Plugin | My Dollar Plan

Can anyone help me?

    Hi Marcus,

The plugin you choose is suitable for someone who is comfortable editing the script codes within Wordpress. I found another one that seems to offer the same functionality, but with a point & click interface: WordPress › Random Posts Widget WordPress Plugins Try out this one - it should look like this for your design WordPress Plugin: Random Posts Widget | Romantika.name - and see if it is an easier way to get what you want.

P.S. Your WF profile has a typo in the link to your web site, there is no period between www and the domain name. I had to manually edit the link URL in the browser to get it to work.

So you guys provide leads to local fitness coaches? That looks like a cool business idea.

Thanks for the info Chris. But this looks like it is just a widget on the sidebar. I'm looking for a featured post plugin that shows a particular post first on my home page. I like the random featured post plugin because I could rotate between several different posts, that way whenever someone returned to my home page it would appear different. From what I've read it is just a matter of adding as amall line of php code, I'm not sure where it goes though.

Also, thanks for letting me know about the typo, and for my business, we don't provide leads, it is a Business opportunity where people are actually given free customers, the first of its kind.

That's a different approach. I'm not a fitness guru but I wonder if you'd be willing to describe a bit about how this works, without giving away your secrets?

As for the plugin, it looks like there are some other Warriors who have already got the technology sorted for you.

From the instructions it doesn't look that difficult - the key is that you need to have your WordPress editor in "HTML" mode and not in visual mode.

Feel free to PM me if you get stumped.

    Hi Marcus

I have used this plugin before and there are a few things to look out for.

The instructions are not really that clear and the call to the "show_featured_post()" function needs to be surrounded by php tags in your index.php file as well as configured to suit your needs. There are examples in the comments section of the blog. You will also have to edit your stylesheet to include a suitable div class for "featuredpost" for it to blend into your theme.

It does work - but there is a bit of coding to do.

I eventually went with this one for a project - Wordpress 2.7.1 featured articles plugin - still a bit of coding but a much more sophisticated plugin. There are others obvioulsy - do a search for "random featured article" and you may find one which suits better.

And that's a great offer from Bill - I am sure he will help if you need it.

    All the best.

P.S. You are certainly NOT an idiot !!
