How to access a Server remotely?

Hey Guys,

I have a dedicated server, CentOS, with cpanel. I want to access the server remotely and was wondering if anybody in here would know the answer or where to direct me to.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi
    You need a client such as SSH Secure Shell or similar..its pretty straightforward really, if your account has shell access - its just a matter of logging in via SSH - enter your account name and password and then su to root. It all depends how it has been set up on the server.

    If you aren't sure or have difficulties just contact the support guys who look after your dedicated server - most are willing to point you in the right direction.

    On Windows I use the Putty SSH client, from Linux I just use the ssh command.

    If you're not sure how to access your server, you may want to look into a managed hosting plan.

      Hi
      If you mean accessing a command prompt to do specific tasks through cPanel the answer is no, you need shell access using SSh Secure Shell or Putty - think of cPanel as a GUI - the icing on a cake - to get to the base of the cake you need shell access.

      If you need to manage other tasks such as creating accounts, editing bandwith limits and quota mods, suspending accounts then yes you can do this through WHM which is like the server side of cPanel - you should have access to this when your dedicated server was set up.

      Are you referring to shell access or server management via WHM?
