Hi all
not sure if im posting in the correct thread - I hope I am.

I have a blog which can be found here

SEO blog | Search engine optimisation (optimization) Techniques| SEM | advise | tips |

For some reason the links at the top where it says 'lead article' recent posts' 'about us' etc do not seem to work. When you click on the link it should change but nothing happens unless you click refresh in your browser. Could someone have a look and see whats wrong please. I spent all last night trying to find a solution with no joy.

Also for some reason i can not upload images through wordpress. I have upgraded to the current version of deans fck editor but the image button doesnt respond when I click on it. My uploads directory permissions are set to 777 so dont know whay it doesnt work.

Also please let me know if you think the site loads slowly. I have compressed it but still takes time to load - beats me

cheers

    I've taken a quick look.

The page is falling apart on my Firefox on Linux...

But in regards to your links at the top, they are referring to ID's on your page. So they take you to the appropriate place on the same page.

ie - the Lead Articles link is.... /blog/#fragment-3

So you have an ID on your page called #fragment-3 and that's where you are taken too.

They are not links to other pages.

Is that what you were intending?

    Cheers
    Tim

      Hi Tim
Thanks for the reply, Yes the links should change the appearance of the box that you see the Lead article in however it only changes once you click on the tab and then press refresh.

Here is the actual demo theme in action with the tabs working

BranfordMagazine by Michael Oeser - DER PRiNZ A premium magazine style WordPress theme

Any idea where im going wrong?

How is the blog breaking up in your firefox. It looks ok in my firefox and IE

      thanks

I'm thinking that at 2am I should go to bed, then come back and reply to any posts...

I've totally misunderstood what was going on. My Apologies.

The Page Breaking up part... well that's probably a result of my slow internet connection (blame the kids...) and it can cause pages to "not render correctly".

So I'll retract that statement about the page breaking in FF. It's good now!

Ok, now I'm awake I might be able to give a decent answer...

There is something "different" between the two sites
and from what I can see it may be your path names...

The working site is running direct from the root.. and yours is running under the folder called /blog.

So it's not finding any entries as it's looking under the root folder and therefore doesn't change.

So have you checked all the path settings in your wp-admin for that, if it's a plugin....

Hopefully that gives you a clue. You'd have to find out where that get's set.

        Good luck with it...

        Cheers
        Tim

looking at your page source, you have not specified the urls for the tabs. Open up the tabs file (I forget the name, but it will have tabs in it of course! =]) and edit accordingly.

as for uploading images; is this an error you have in directly uploading via the media section of the admin panel or when writing a post? that's a new problem to me though; would have to think on that one.

The tabs file is ui.tabs.php - I have tried chaning the links so that they are direct but no joy. Here is the php file

The actual problems to the blog started to occur when I transfered from my home directory to my /blog directory. I didnt actually perform the transfer myself but my hosting company did for me. I thin theres something out of place as it doesnt allow me to upload images by the actual upload image section of the post in wordpress or the fck upload button

I am not an expert, but looking through your code I see a couple of links to branfordmagazine. Shouldn't those be replaced with 'yoursite/blog' links?

If the problems came with changing the directory from the root to /blog, then that is where you need to look for problems - can you do a search across the site for the text 'branfordmagazine'?

Hopefully this will give you some clues!

Merry Christmas and a happy New Year!

I see you have it figured out; and I didn't even notice it was on the blog directory before! lol. Sorry; sometimes I do speak to soon! But also looking at your recent posts, they are running over your section. Change your limit to a little lower (5/7 or so)

Hi Thanks for all your time and help on this issue.

I had a problem on my blog which TBH baffled everyone that I asked. Let me explain the full issue.

I initially had the blog installed to the main directory and then later wanted to move it to /blog Now i done this by getting help from the hostgator team - They were kind enough to do it for free.

However my blog was loading extremely slow and as mentioned on this thread basic functions were not working such as uploading pictures and the tabs. I checked the mySql database under wp_options to make sure all was well and everything looked in place. I also checked to make sure everything was ok with the wp-config file. Everything look just as it should be.

I decided to do a backup of the Mysql and also the folders. I even went the extra mile to go through each post and copy the html format just incase something was wrong with the database.

I then wanted to remove wordpress. As I used fantastico in the first place I was advised that I should also remove with fantastico. However the remove button from the fantastico menu was only for the main directory as nothing was setup for /blog I got some assistance from hostgator and was told to delete the files manually. They then ran a script so that i was able to use fantastico again.

To cut a long story short I reinstalled it and imported the database. Not to my surprise but it didnt work. So i uploaded the old files. The home page was fine but nothing else worked. couldnt even login to the admin area.

I was then sure that there was a setting in the database or one of the index files which was still sending queries to bigseotechniques.com and not bigseotechniques.com/blog - I mess around with it for over an hour and then decided to do everything manually.

Lucky for me i even backed up the sitemap so I knew what the exact urls were. I then added all the posts and kept the urls the same.

Its still bugging me as I couldnt figure it out but TBH im glad that its done now. Quicker loading and I can upload the images.

Ive changed the post count so it should look better on the recent post page tab.

Regarding the home page There are many article snippets on the home page and think this is because I had to add all of the posts in 1 day. Not too sure but will wait a day or so and check to see if its changed.

One problem that I am having though is to get images to show up on the home page. I will need to read the branfodmagazine tutorial to figure it out I think.

Can anyone shed any light on the wordpress archive files - such as date - author - categories and so on. will these be picked up as duplicate contents. I was reading an article which mentioned that there will be about 5 different urls with the same contents due to the archive that wordpress creates. I suppose a quick tweak to the robots.txt file will solve it but just wanted to know for sure.

Again thanks to everyone who have helped.

                  Happy new year

    Great that you solved it...
I had installed the same theme the other day to see what was going on and didn't get back to you in time.
it worked out of the box.

I'm actually using it to test some new plugins I'm creating....

So make sure that in the admin - settings that the two urls...
WordPress address (URL) and Blog address (URL) are correct.

Happy New Year to you too.

    Cheers
    Tim
