WP Edit Problem

Has anyone had experience with this problem? I am unable to edit using the 'source' editor. This was never a problem until today.

I have made 199 posts to my blog without having this difficulty. When I click into the source editor the content of the editor jumps to the top of the edit box. If I move the right-hand bar down to a lower area of content the same thing happens.

The visual editor is fine, the problem is only when viewing and trying to edit the source; adding a url, etc.

I would appreciate any suggestions to take care of this. Can't go any further without solving this problem and I still have another 1000 or so posts.

  • did you recently update your WordPress version to 2.9?
    If so, chances are you either have a problem with one of your plugins or some of files did not update fully.

    Here's how I would troubleshoot this

    First de-activate all your plugins and try the source editor. If it's working then you know that one of your plugins is no longer compatible so next you need to identify which one is causing you grief. Do that by activating each plugin one by one and work with the editor after you activate each one. Once you identify which plugin is the faulty one, you either are going to have to replace it with something else, write the plugin author to see if he has a fix, or ditch it completely

    If it's not a plugin issue then a file is missing or corrupt in your wp-admin directory so...
    Download WordPress 2.9 to your computer.
    Using FTP, upload the wp-admin folder and let it overwrite your current one. More than likely some files didn't update properly or there may be files which may have become corrupt for some reason.

    • Thanks for the reply Karen. I did just recently update to 2.9 and removed a plugin that WP pointed out as not being compatible.

      I will try going through them one at a time in the event there is still a bad one. As far as the update goes I will check that also.
