Hackers Beware...

I am sending out this thread to all you hackers here on the forum...
and there are more then you might think...

I put a thread here on the forum for a programmer about a month ago thinking this would be a good place to find a decent programmer for a good price...

Well to make a long story short I found what I thought was a good programmer that completed the job that I needed done and we went are separate ways...or so I thought...

Within one week after using this dudes programming service I started getting emails and calls from some fraud squad in India telling me to shut down my sites that this programmer did work to...about 10 of them...

I guess he installed a phishing link on all the niche sites I had him work on
and what this phishing link was doing was targeting people that had accounts with the bank of India asking them to update there account information,then he would withdraw money from there accounts...

Nice guy...:confused: and to think this all started from me needing a programmer...
here on the forum...

And do not get me wrong...this forum ROCKS...but there are bad people that pray on people here too...

So beware of people offering any services on any forum or places that offer services...they might be a wolf in sheeps clothing...

Oh buy the way, If anyone can refer me to a honest true blue programmer
that you have worked with before that has good rates and does not want to scam me...please let me know...

    Do you KNOW that's what happened - or are you assuming? Could it be someone else found a vulnerable part of the program and exploited it?

      When you hired him did you setup accounts for him to work on your sites and then disable or delete it after he was done? And do you use secure passwords for all your accounts and keep your sites updated with security fixes for scripts and CMS's? And do all of your sites use different user names and passwords?

      Do you have a backup copy of the sites as they were when you and he signed off on the work? Do those copies contain the offensive links?

      All of the above are safety precautions that I always advise my clients to take when I work on their websites - it protects both the client and myself from exactly this sort of thing.

      Kay brings up a very valid point, there are a number of ways your sites could have been exploited. If indeed you have evidence that it was the code he installed that originally contained the phishing links then that's one thing. But it could also be that you were attacked last week by someone completely unrelated to your programmer.

      Please, let us know how you're so sure it was your programmer and not someone else -as a software developer myself this is of great concern to me, as I'm sure it is to many Warriors.
