FTP Client and Corrupt files? Why?

I uploaded a zip file containing several files of things like themes, headers, and a video to a website folder via FTP client. However, when I go to the domain and try to open the folders only two of them work. The other two folders within the zip will not open the files.

On my hard drive, all of the files within the zip work fine.

THis leads me to think that it must have been something that went wrong with the FTP transfer.

Any ideas as to how to fix this?

Thanks for any help!

  • Hi,

If this is Zip file.. Why no upload from directly from the hosting panel,
through built-in upload manager... this way you will know skip the FTP,
and if FTP is causing problem, you will know this surely.

    • Thank you, Mohsin. This may sound like an elementary question, but how do I do that? I have hostgator.

      Thanks!
  • No Problem..

    Here we go..
    Go to hostgator control panel..

    then File Manager...

Select the Domain/folder you want to upload..

and then in File Manger at the top menu, you see, UPLOAD..
click that button...and new window will open..

Click the BROWSE button at that page...and select/browse the zipped
file from your PC... and click UPLOAD!

After that you can select that file..and EXTRACT its contents on your host.

Let me know if anything confuses you...

    • Hi,

FTP software can corrupt some uploads. Depending on the software there are different modes that the FTP can upload with. If it is set on one type that might be causing the corruption. Try setting it to auto and try it again.

      Cheers

  • Just keep watch on this -- some cp software can corrupt too, including Cpanel and Parallels options both. Don't assume it was the FTP software without giving it more time.
