Lost my 404 page--can anyone restore?

My blog site is set up in the Gazette theme (I believe that's known as a Woo theme) and I have not been able to restore the original 404.php page. I wanted to add another message and when I tried it didn't work so I have since restored the original code but it just won't show the error page message.
Anyone got a clue on this one?

    Hi,

Are you saying you restored the 404 to its original code and now the 404 page doesn't look like it did when you first installed the theme? If the page is coming up but the message isn't there, it's probably just an HTML issue with improper tagging which is hiding the message. If the page isn't coming up at all, then it's obviously something else. If you could be a little more specific then I should be able to help you.

That would be great--didn't know how much info was needed. No, the original message no longer comes up. The right hand sidebar is now on the left and nothing is on the right. It does not affect my other pages, just this one.

Make a search for a post that has been deleted, example:
      topbabyshowerideas.com/tag/declared-as-enjoyable/
and you can see what I mean. I can't seem to revive the error message--even with the original coding. This must be something I screwed up but you would think that restoring the code would get it back where it was.

I have submitted a support ticket to my host as this is what was suggested to me.
      Thanks for the look!

It may be an issue with the 404 page, but I am getting the correct 404 message when I enter an arbitrary tag. The problem probably has to do with the fact the message no longer exists, but the tag still does. Try going to the Wordpress admin page and on the left under "Posts" click "Post Tags." From there it'll list all the tags and how many posts use each tag. Delete the tags with 0 posts and see if that resolves the problem.

Your 404 page is definately working. If I enter the following page then it comes up 404

    http://topbabyshowerideas.com/tag/de...as-enjoyable1/

so explain how you deleted the post

    topbabyshowerideas.com/tag/declared-as-enjoyable/

did you just delete the content of the post and then hit save

    or

did you click posts then under the relevant post click on trash ?

That is so strange---I never got that page till now. Either my host fixed the problem or I was only seeing a cached page (never mind that my cache was cleared already). Back to the drawing board. I will again attempt to add images and a new message to see if it disappears again... will keep ya posted. Thanks again.
