RESOLVED!... Now Desperate! Can't get Word to print images...

Hi, techies.

I sure hope someone has an answer because I've just lost an entire week trying to figure out what's wrong with my pdf creation efforts.

I'm using Word 2003 on Windows XP Professional.

I'm using pdf995 to create a pdf document from my Word document.

The pdfs I produce are fine, except they do not include the image.

I've been working with pdf995 support and they've pretty much determined that the problem is something to do with Word. They asked me to check Print Preview and, sure enough, the text is there but not the image.

I've been using these 2 programs to create pdfs for years and never had this problem before. I've used the images that I used in those successful pdfs in this new document, but nothing works.

Let me add that my computer ran into problems several months back, so I ended up with a newer version of Word than what I had before, which was Word 2000, I think.

Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this?

I've uninstalled pdf995 and rebooted my computer, downloaded new versions of pdf995 and all its relevant files and installed them.

I ran the Word "detect and repair" but it didn't make any difference.

Your help is desperately needed.

Why not try open office 3.0 it has a built in document to pdf converter and the new version is awesome. It can do what you are looking for. In it's first few days of being available the open office website crashed due to the demand for it. It's free as well.

      Thanks, e-mail2u.

I should have come back here and posted that I got the problem resolved.

      Here's what it was.

Word has layers - for text, graphics and something else. If you don't have Drawings selected in one of the option boxes, the images won't show in the Print Preview.

But this isn't enough to get it to print onto the pdf.

Word also requires that you place all your images as "in-line with text", which you select in the "Format Picture" menu. This brings the images up onto the layer with the text so that they will be "seen" by the pdf creator.

I don't know if this is the same for any pdf creator, but it is with pdf995.

BTW, I'm am eternally grateful to pdf995 support who worked diligently with me to find the solution. Their program is great, it's free, and the support is outstanding.

We tried many things and after I had pretty much given up and moved over to Microsoft for answers, I received a link from Scott to a site that explains it all in plain English.

This has been such a frustrating challenge that I'm providing the link here so others won't have to go through this:

I inserted some graphics in a document, but now I can't see them; or there is just an empty box where one should be; or my graphics won't print

Thanks again for everyone who offered to help.
