Wordpress cpu overload server shutdown, HELP!

My host just disabled my site do to cpu overloading they said my index.php file was using 100% of the cpu. This is what they sent me:


[Wed May 05 11:24:50 2010] [info] Executing
"/home/evonygam/public_html/index.php" as UID 528, GID 528


This is my home page. The site does get about 850 visitors a day but I am nowhere near my usage limit. Any ideas? The only thing I have been able to find so far is that installing a cache plugin like wp-cache might help.
Any ideas?

  • Which web host do you choose? and how much PV per day?
    You can install a Wp Super Cache to drop the CPU usage.

    • This doesn't seem right. At all.

      Did you do anything to modify wordpress? Out of the box it shouldn't be doing this, at all.

      My guess is:

      1. Something is hanging in the database. Possibly corrupt
      2. You have too many HTTP requests. (unlikely)
      3. You are pulling in something from a third party that is hanging.

      But with 850 visitors a day there is no way wordpress could lock up a Pentium 1 machine. Something is definitely haywire here. Have your webhost check their error logs if they will.
