Just recovered from a malware attack

Sorry if this is the wrong forum, but I need help so I'll start here. It this is inappropriate, please let me know.

I got a virus yesterday, but I shut down the browser immediately and had the virus removed (that took a while.) The virus is no longer here and a new antivirus program has been installed. Now when I do a Google search, all the wrong things come up - like I searched warrior forum, the listings come up and the top one does look like this site, even has www.warriorforum.com as the url at the bottom. But most of the language on the rest of the page is no longer English and if I click that top link for warrior forum it says the document has moved and another directory pops up. This happens on a lot of searches.

It seems because my browser keeps going to google.nl instead of google.com when I search. I cannot stop it from switching to the netherlands search engine. Not sure if this has to do with the same thing.

Can anyone tell me how to fix this? I can't reach the person who put the new antivirus in at the moment.

Thanks.

  • The malware/virus is still in your system. Does anything pop-up when you leave the computer alone? Is there like a "fake" antivirus program that starts "pretending" to scan your system?

    • Thank you for replying to my post. No - that screen no longer pops up, yet it did at first but I was able to remove it. So now it seems what is left is the redirect virus. I have found a way around it but would like to get it out. I have heard that Hitman Pro is one of the best ones to use for this and I just got the link for it.

Do you (or does anyone) have any experience with Hitman Pro or other suggestions? I have not heard of Hitman pro and though they have a free 30 trial I am apprehensive about downloading anything at this point.

  • Don't download it.
DOwnload this (free version), restart your computer i safe mode fi you know how then install it.
Update it so you have the latest definitions then run a quick scan.
After the scan, view report then remove selected items ( if you need to select all ) restart your computer and theres a 99% chance your 100% fixed.

  • you can download the free version of Advanced System Care 3, very good. Or you can download the free version of Spy Doctor (i think comes with some google package thing).

you can also go to start -> run -> msconfig ... make sure you don't have any funny programs running on startup .. reboot is necessary if you make changes and press OK

    • It is fixed! After the anti-malware did not work, I sent tech support of that company an email. In the end it seems it took 2 programs to work, the anti-malware along with Hijack This. I am forever thankful, Cranky Old Man ! Hope this helps anyone in the future as this virus was really, really annoying.
