What script would you recommend?

Hi,

I'm looking for a simple site that allows members to sign up and create their own blogs for free. Blogs would be under a variety of categories based on the members profession.

Home page would contain a directory listing of all the professions and then each professions directory page would list the relevant blogs...

Once set up, if they want, members can pay a premium for their membership to be upgraded which then gives them a premium advertisment on the home page.

I'm aware that I can probably do this with Wordpress mu. But I don't need the advanced functionality of Wordpress. There will only be one blog theme throughout.

Is Wordpress Mu the best way to do this? Or is there a simpler way that anyone can recommend?

  • You might try buddy press, but either way MU, or BP, they are both fairly complex, though I have heard that buddy press is a little easier to use,

    I was looking at this for a project recently and what I found was that if you want to host these services, you should look for a host that will host buddy press,

    I did find a couple of good ones, but you never really know for sure until you put it under a load,
  • For something like that, i wouldn't use WordPress at all.
  • Chop Suey - that doesn't really help me much. Right now Wordpress MU seems to be the most suited application.... I'm just wondering if there isn't anything simpler...

    Or perhaps an php application that does something similar.
