    Hi Annette

What type of website (i.e. WordPress, Joomla, static HTML) are you transferring? And when you say "the same hosting account" do you mean that you both use the same hosting company?

    Thanks

    Bill

    Hi Annette,

I depends on what hosting environment you are using (shared, VPS, dedicated)

If can give me some more information about how the site is hosted now and how you want it to be moved I will do what I can.

As a primer, if the site is hosted in a shared environment (hostgator etc) and you want to transfer ownership without having to move the site, that would be a hostgator (or whoever) customer service issue. If you have your own server, let me know and I can give you further information

    Hi Annette

Feel free to PM me if you need any assistance - have moved sites from Bluehost to Hostgator several times.

    Essentially you need to:

    (a) Make a copy of the WordPress database (PHP My Admin)

    (b) Make a copy of all the site files (FTP)

    (c) Do the Domain Name transfer. Set the Domain name to point at the nameservers on Hostgator (On your registrars control panel)

    (d) Create a new database on Hostgator and a new user account to go with it (C Panel)

    (e) Edit the wp-config.php file to use the new database parameters.

    (f) Import the database you made a copy of earlier (PHP My Admin)

    (g) Upload the files including the modified configuration file (FTP)

You should be working now on the new host. If you have permalink issues delete your .htaccess file and rebuild your permalinks by re-saving them.

There is an additional step to do if you are just moving the site to another domain name, essentially you need to edit the database file you exported to change all the occurrences of the old domain name to the new one.

Hope this helps, again please feel free to contact me if you need assistance.
