BACKGROUND
The project is a complete redesign of a website for a friend of mine who has been running a business for many years taking single men to Colombia and introducing them to 300-400 beautiful Latin women in the hopes a relationship and marriage would follow. His tours cost ~$900 per person for a single tour. He currently has a product for a Men's Profile Listing for $150 for 12 months.

THE PROJECT
The current website is going away. It is horrible and was made in FrontPage by the owner who knows nothing of web design. I want to use a CMS like Joomla for its ease of moving content around and the ease for the owner to be able to update the site later on his own with little design knowledge. The website will also need to incorporate the following items, which will be the reason for additional PHP and MySQL knowledge to add to the basic Joomla site. It does NOT need to be in the form of modules or plugins. It just needs to be wrapped inside the Joomla site.

- Full site with content and photos from existing site.
- *Profiles of men and women users which will emulate a sort of Match.com feel.
- *Full searching of profiles.
- *Ability to send predefined messages for free.
- Ability to send 'blind email' (no one sees the actual personal email address) messages once a paid member.
- Ability to live chat to online members in a 1on1 window if paid member.
- Ability to live video chat to online members in a 1on1 window if paid premium member.

* Features needed immediately for site launch.

TIME LINE
The site with content from existing site and the '*' features for profiles needs to be completed first and needs to be online and working by September 1st. The additional features will be deployed afterwards with the entire feature list enabled by November 1st.

MY EXPERIENCE
I have created static HTML sites in the past, as well as one flagship website using ASP and MS Access for a matchmaking website of my own. I can get edit code no problem, but am not experienced enough to create a site of this magnitutde from scratch on the fly within the deadline amount of time.

(I had a good friend that was going to help me do this work, but his personal life is not allowing enough time to complete the work)

YOUR EXPERIENCE
Have some basic experience with web design and graphics, but primarily your focus and experience should be in how to utilize PHP and a MySQL database to perform the user profile logins and the assiociated behind the scenes coding for all the member features.

THE MONEY
Don't take my word for it... do your OWN research. Foreign brides, international dating, etc. Look at the dollar amounts and the traffic these sites get. This is an established business with clientele and traffic. Site monetization in regards to memberships will be something like $30 for one time, 5-day trials, a monthly recurring subscription of $50/mo and possibly a 1 year subscription with a 20% discount for $480. Check the numbers of other sites in the industry and you will find only one REAL competitor and they are 10 TIMES this amount...and the women are fake.

**Your compensation will be based on a 1 year term 50/50 with my compensation on all website generated revenue. No profit sharing of romance tour payments ($900), only revenues for memberships, advertising or affiliate sales on the website. Our combined compensation will be 80% vs the owner's 20%. Compensation will start on September 1st, but the 1 year time period will not start until November 1st when Phase 2 is completed.

YOUR COMMITMENT
Getting the site up and working properly for Phase 1 will be the most important and we both will be working all of our spare time to get it up. THEN we can relax as we have 2 months to implement Phase 2 with the few smaller items to the features. After both phases have been completed there should be little to no work for you to do except for any volunteered time to increase revenues.

<< Do a little work now and get paid for the next 12 months...that is the offer. **EVERYTHING is negotiable. Cash payment is possible if multiple payments are accepted in escrow. Everything will be in writing in a contract and notorized. >>

If we work well together, I have other online opportunities that I would love to find a trusted partner to work on with. Email me now for my cell phone number.

P.S. A free Romance Tour Package is available as a bonus if curious.

No problem, I am at 12 posts and should be able to PM you after I respond to a couple more threads...I think. So I will be in touch this evening. I look forward to talking with you.

devguy... guess it is 50 post count not 15.

If you Google me I am sure you can find an email for me or a website at the least.

In my experience, someone who can't even afford to pay for development will not make a reliable partner. You are very unlikely to find any developer of quality using this tactic.

Look at this chart to see how much ideas are worth in comparison to their execution: Ideas are just a multiplier of execution | Derek Sivers

Though the above chart was done just for fun, it might give you an idea of why any developer worth his salt is not going to work for ideas. Ideas are only worth $1 without execution.

First, wayfarer, you are right in regards to your point of views... however, they don't apply to this situation.

If you read my post and try to understand it before jumping to the conclusion that I am the stereotypical "I want someone to build my website for FREE" kind of person, you see that I even mentioned TWICE that a 'cash payment' option is available. I never said I could not afford to pay. however, I feel I want to work together with someone like me... someone who has a full time job, but has extra hours to put forth some sweat equity now to earn for the future.

Also, no where did I say I was looking for any kind of developer. I am looking for a guy like me who knows how to get things done and is willing to work WITH me to do it.

As for ideas vs. execution... I already have the idea and I laid it out completely, down to the money expectations which are based on existing sales from a 10 year old business and reports of sales from the single competitor in this market, which offers an obviously inferior product (sorry still can't post URLs).

So, in essence I am in the execution phase and though I KNOW I could do it on my own, I am also realistic in that it would take me alot of late nights and simple errors learning to do it on my own in 6 months than finding a good PARTNER to help me with getting it done in 2 or 3 months.

Definitely valid points wayfarer and I would not expect any less from a commercial Web Developer such as yourself who gets paid to do this kind of work day in and day out. I can appreciate your advise, perhaps it will help someone else be more realistic in choosing a Web Developer.

Ok, you make some good points. However, as it stands, it is easy for someone to misinterpret your statements if they don't read them carefully, especially since people often show up in forums looking to 'pay you later', and full of ideas, but with no idea how to execute them. People that do what I describe would, if taken up, require so much education on the development process it would be impossible to make progress. It's usually new people without a budget that are looking somehow to make their dream happen no matter what. Some of them may succeed, it's hard to say, but it's a definite risk to take on such an assignment. This risk is compounded with the fact that most ideas end up failing anyway.

Probably the most likely way to find a partner is to start out by hiring someone. I can tell you from personal experience, that about 2 years ago I was hired by a client to work on rebuilding an existing site. We finished the project successfully, and the site went on to be bigger and better than it was before. Now, 2 years later, we have gotten to know each other so well, that we're starting to partner on a very ambitious project. We never had this intention at the beginning of our relationship, but since we've known each other this long we have built up a lot of mutual respect and trust. Because we have this strong foundation, we can work together cohesively.

Solid information and yes I look forward to trying to do some networking now that I am trying to become a fixture to some forums and networking sites. I have already gotten some quotes on a few of those rentacoder or freelance websites and well the majority are from India or some other country and I am sure they want to give me a website that is ONLY a matchmaking website using a script that was written 5 years ago and sold everywhere. Know what I mean? LOL I want to make something more custom.

There is also the potential to resell the code as a complete package to some other website owner looking for the same functionality in this industry. I have no agreements restricting em from that with the current owner.

The money situation is a bit limited to fork out $2,000 at the moment to pay someone else to do it with just my feedback due to making the trip to Colombia on one of our tours to assist in other areas to improve the company image. Such as creating a better DVD presentation, better organization of collecting the females profile applications and video interviews.

As I said this is a REAL opportunity to build on something that is already profitable, but is not getting the volume of sales other industry leaders are getting. I am working on more than just the website portion of growing the business model.

    Thanks for your comments wayfarer!

    @MarketAbel:

Well, it sounds like you have the real entrepreneurial spirit here, which could be enough to make you very successful. Finding niche markets with a large unfilled demand is a something that many people never manage to do. Now it's just a matter of matching your vision with an actual plan of action.

I would suggest to make it as easy and simple as possible at first. Easier to develop (and build on later), and easier for your users to understand. Make a plan that only includes the absolute minimum functionality for the application and execute it.

You should take a good look at using Drupal for this - it's got a bit more power to do these sort of sites. It'll do most of what you want out of the box if you get someone who know's what they are doing. I've not got time at the moment to do work for money in the future, but I'm sure you'll be able to find someone to knock something out.
Drop me a line if you want any help,
