How Do I Do This?

I have a domain that I've registered...

What I am planning to do: Build a simple landing page, get it indexed in google for certain specific keywords.

What I do not know how to do; When someone finds my page on google and they click on the link to my website, I need them to immediatlely and automaticallybe redirected to another website of mine.

How do I do this?

Preferrably simple do this 1, 2, 3 instructions would be best....

All the best,

  • could do a 301 re-direct.

    In your .htaccess file on your webserver (if it isn't created, just use a txt editor to create a .htaccess file)

    input the following
    Code:
    redirect 301 /first/website.htm http://www.redirected.com/website.htm
  • If your page is going to automatically redirect visitors to a second location, then Google would not index the content of the landing page. (Googlebots would also be redirected)

    While you could work around this, you'd be breaking Google rules (showing Google something tha regular vistors won't see)

    So the best answer might be the easiest answer... put a big orange button link on the landing page for visitors to click through to the intended destination.

  • RJP is correct! A 301 will not do what your want. It will redirect the visitor, but BigG won't like it..

    You can put a Javascript redirect on the page, that redirects to the new page.
    [script type="text/javascript"]
    window.location = "http://www.google.com/"
    [/script]

    Note : swap square brackets for angle brackets,

    if if you want to go a likke "grey-hat", if you could put a check on the site so that a check is made of the referer tag, if the user come from a search engine (say Google or Yahoo), they are automtaclly redirected to your money site. This will keep the Bots on your landing page and keep it indexed..

    If you want to go this way then just say so, and I'll show you how its done.

    take care

    • I would like to know how to do this, can you P.M. the instructions?

  • you can use a count down js/php code
    Code:
    jooria.com/snippets?snippet=116
  • Ok.. here its is.. It looks and is very simple but works amazingly wel..

    Its some PHP code that you must put on your landing page (make sure you have set HTML to tun as PHP via your sites .htaccess file.

    [?php
    $agent = $_SERVER["HTTP_USER_AGENT"];
    $agentlist = '#(google)|(slurp)|(msn)|(scooter)|(crawler)|(bing )#Uis';
    if (!preg_match($agentlist,$agent))
    {
    header('Location: http://www.your-money-site.com');
    exit();
    }
    ?]

    Note: Change the square brackets into angle brackets.
    Change the code so that http://www.your-money-site.com actually points to your destination site.

    As i said, this is slightly on the grey-hat side of things, use carefully and you should be OK..

    Hope it helps

  • Bruce,

    Your cloaking idea is good but there will be a small issue.

    AFAIK, the term "Google" is also present if user has google toolbar installed on their browser, so it's better to check for "Googlebot", "msnbot","yahooslurp" etc.

    • You are correct, the term Google on the toolbar would stop the script redirecting to the main money making site.
      Using your suggestion would be much easier and avoid being stuck on the landing page.

      Nice tips guys.
