Problem hostgator

Hello!

My hosting company is hostgator. I open an account with mypersonalsite.com, and now everytime i want to add a new domain to my account, it will be put inside of the Mypersonalsite.com. So if i want to, i can type Mypersonalsite.com/theothersite.com it will take me to theothersite.com. So, it will be like a directory of the mypersonalsite.com. Does any one now how can i add theothersite.com on my hostgator like if it was a independent site?

  • Hostgator treats secondary sites like sub-domains. They will appear as sub-directories within the FTP server setup.

    So essentially you're creating a subdomain for "theothersite" and it will appear online as "theothersite.com".

    Put all of your "theothersite.com" files within the folder created for it and not in the root directory.
  • This is what I do. I create a /pub directory in the home directory (not in /public_html, but in /). When I add an addon domain, I'll place the root for it in /pub e.g. /pub/theothersite.com.
  • I have the files of theothersite.com inside the folder "theothersite.com", wich is on the public_html folder. The files uploaded into the public_html will appear in the mypersonalsite.com, and the files uploaded to the domain folders inside the oublic html will appear in the secondary sites, like myothersite.com.

    My problem is that anyone who knows mypersonalsite.com can know that i have theothersite.com, and i don´t want that.
  • No one will know unless you give them some sort of indication of the root site, they have FTP access, or you list your directory structure on the live site.

    They could check the IP address details of the site and see other sites listed on that same IP, but I wouldn't be concerned about that.

    If you are, purchase "whoisguard" protection for your domain from your domain registrar.

  • No, that protects your "whois" info (domain technical contact, registrar contact, etc.). Example: warriorforum.com Whois - warrior forum - Who.is

    To prevent a directory from being listed, just add an index file (index.html, index.php, etc) to the root folder - this will be your home page.
