Is there a decent Magento book?

Hello all,
I'm about to take control of my first Magento ecomm site from my developer and I was wondering if there was a decent Magento guide out there to help me learn the platform's back end.

There's the Magento User Guide, but it's gotten some lousy reviews so I don't know if I want to get it or not. Does anyone have any experience with a great Magento book?

      I'm working on a Magento site right now for a client and I agree, the information about this complex product is very minimal.

      I was eying the Magento 1.3 PHP Developer Guide that Chunks mentioned and it may be worthwhile, however it sounds like you want more of a Users Manual.

      Due to its complexity for my client I will be recording a few Camtasia videos to help them out. Perhaps your developer would be kind enough to do the same?

  • Hey Godfather, not sure if you ever got an answer to this question but your right about the "Official Guide" it's not that great. It glosses over so much when detail is really needed.

    I would check out the alternative "commercial" offerings. I like "Magento 1.3 PHP Developer Guide" but that is very technical, depends what your looking for. There are others but the same publishers that look good. Do a search at Amazon for Magento, there's some good books to choose from.

    How did you go with your Magento project? Is it off the ground yet?
