Google Webmaster will not let me verify my site!

Sorry guys I'm asking alot of questions and the help has been awesome...if it wasn't for this forum I'd be screwed! Anyways Google webmaster will not let me verify my site. I set up everything with analytics and I entered the code correctly in the analytics plug in on my website. Any suggestions?

Not sure what you are trying to do here . . .

Are you trying to verify your site in Webmaster Tools OR

Trying to set up Google Analytics via a plugin?

    What error(s) are you getting?

Verifying your website with Google is different than setting up Analytics.

To verify via Webmasters tools you have a few choices. One is to upload a file to your root directory and go back to webmaster tools and hit verify, that has nothing to do with Analytics.

Which are you attempting to do? Are you just trying to set up Analytics or to verify your website, it's 2 different things.

Sorry to confuse you guys. This is what I did. I set up a google analytics account. I then put the UA number into the google analytics plug in on my website. Then I went to google webmaster and tried to verify my ownership by linking to my analytics account. It then says unable to verify account. What am i missing?

I would take few hours to show up in your google analytics acccount.
try after few hours and let us know if you face any issue.

I should also say which is probably the whole problem in that in my analytics account it says under status that there is an exclamation mark which means its not verified. How to fix this?

If you just set up Analytics it will take about 24 hours to actually go live, it does not happen automatically. If you read the analytics page I am almost sure it clearly states that. Be a little patient.

A very simple way to see that you set it up properly is to right-click your page, view source. If you see your Analytics code as provided by G--gle, then go back and try to verify again.

Chances are you are not properly placing the code on your site.
    Just a thought.

It seems strange that it is not picking up your Analytics Code (should do it automatically) - you have some code in your site?

      The alternatives . . .

Have you tried any of the other methods of verification for Webmaster Tools?

HTML file on your server (upload the file to your root directory)
      OR
Meta tags addition (add a meta tag to your header file)
      OR
DNS addition (probably best to leave this - more fiddly!)
