How do you use gmail canned responses with a php mail form

I tried to use gmail canned responses to auto respond to people who send mail from my website but it sends the canned responses to the "mail-by" field which is the hosting company email system. Is there a way I can change the "mail-by" field to the "from" field so it replies to the email provided by the person sending the email?

    huh? who is sending email from your website? are they sending email to the gmail account?
