Starting out as completely new, so beginner level, but building up to intermediate stuff and beyond? Any ideas as to where to make a start?

I am trying to upload a picture and for some reasons the upload is failing and I do have the file dimensions right, I suppose I could upload it on to my own server and reference it from there, any other ideas, I have no idea why it is not loading when using the browse function?

  • Hey Gordon,

This is my beginner PHP course: Five Minute PHP

Instant download of the book, then 35-part e-mail follow-up course. All you need is to watch a 5 minute video a day and follow along.

  • A good hands-on book is PHP Solutions: Dynamic Web Design Made Easy. You can get it either at Amazon.com in paperback here or download it via e-book here. The e-book format is $18.37. I highly recommend it for anyone wanting to learn PHP and learn to build dynamic websites.

  • Hi Gordon, upload it to your server then type the url in your browser you should see your pretty picture if you follow the file path. If not, there is something wrong. Are you using WordPress or something else?

    • Hi Leanne,

I can see the picture in my browser, but for some reason when I try to add it to my warrior profile, it comes coming up as failed and will not load it, most strange

  • you are trying to add your avatar here? Simplest solution is that it is probably too big. I resized mine at picnik and compressed it at dynamic drive.

    Hope that helps

    • I have tried different sizes Leanne and it is still not working for me, I am sure I will get to the bottom of it sooner or letter, until then no one gets to see my pretty face <grin>

      Thanks Leanne

  • PHP Tutorial
    and
    PHP Tutorial - Introduction
are how I learnt - It's probably best to go through them before buying a course, that way you can get a feel for the language and see if you want to carry on with it.

  • A very inexpensive solution is to go to your library and check out a few PHP books - if you can go through them, then you're well on your way, but if they are all greek, you can save spending more money on training!
  • visit the php.net website. You can find out good php tutorials there.
