Specific TLD google search?

Hi,

Does anybody know how to do a specific country code google search?

What I mean by that is just like a normal keyword search but all the results contain only sites with a specific TLD: .us, .uk, .ro, .ca, etc. I don't want to see any .com, .org or .anythingelse in my results except the TLD I choose to.

Is this possible?
If not with google, maybe with some other search engine?

Thanks

  • I'm not sure how broad Google goes with country search, but you can easily test it and find out.
My guess is that Google buys up any available domain google.whatever

For SEO for my UK clients I use Google
Try others and see if they work I guess.
  • If I understand you right, you want to use site:TLD.

    For example:

    dog training site:ca

...would get you Canadian dog training sites.

    • Yeah, something like that but I want to get only .ca sites in the search results.

      ex.

      1.dogtraningsite.ca
      2.helpmelearndograninng.ca
      3.canadianagencyofdogtraining.ca
      .......... etc.
  • The query that patey88 gave you does indeed return only .ca sites, at least it did when I tried it. Also tried dog training site:co.uk and that works too.

Isn't that exactly what you wanted?

    • Last time I tried this search there were also other tld domains in the results, but now I realized that I had a space between "site" and ":" so it did not do the job.

      Now it works just fine

      Thanks patey88!
  • Hi,

There are a couple of considerations here!

    First, directly to your question:
To search specific tlds only - go to advanced search (right-hand side of google search box) and you will get a new screen with extra search control fields.
The last field has a textbox with "Search within a site or domain" as label. enter the specific TLD domain extensions you want results from.

This is the same as using Google's "site:" search field as a search parameter in your standard Google search box -

e.g. to search for horses in canada, or with a .ca tld extension you would type the following into Google:
    horses site:.ca
This returns a list of wesbites about horses, with the .ca tld only!

Second - Getting a non-tld specific domain to come up in Google when someone searches for sites from a specific country or region:
If you have a website that does not have a .ca tld, but would like it to show in searches, for example for .ca or Canadian websites, then you can use the Region Tags in your Google webmaster tools: Site configuration > Settings > Geographic Target. Here you can associate a particular country/region with your site.

    Hope that helps!

  • I think that inurl:.ca would work better than site:.ca but if it actually worked for you then that's good. I still prefer my approach though.
