Any Social Networking Scripts any good?

PROGRAMMING

So I've been asked by a client to create a "facebook" type page for a niche that they service. Ive been doing some research on different scripts and have seen a number even mentioned in the forum here.

social engine some have said was good but I've seen so many people saying that it can't handle a large number of users...that simply will not work in this situation.

I've also found a script called "isocial" anyone ever hear of it or use if at all? From what I have found this far it seams it's the most stable (but the reviews are very limited with what I could find)

We may go the creation from scratch route too...not sure but I wanted to hopefully get some input from others on the options

Still doing old school with PHP etc. I might need to actually look into these myself. Are you able to use stuff like isocial for Twitter or just creating your own apps? Sorry that I followed up your question with a question but I am looking for the same info so I will be sure to PM you if I get that information.

  no isocial is a complete "platform" for creating a social network. I'm not sure what you mean by incorporating twitter? I assume you mean that you want the site to update when post a tweet? ..which isn't hard to have done anyway..
  
  It seams that other options out there offer many of the same features of Facebook..but don't have the stablity when put under a decent load of traffic...That is my main concern.
  
  Would be much easier to have a starting platform rather then making this all from scratch...

Never heared about iSocial.

I once created and sold a social network based on Dolphin script. You can also try socialengine.

If you want to build a scalable social network use Jomsocial which will help you convert joomla into a social network. You can also check for drupal social network extensions.
