As in topic, what is your favourite editor used to edit HTML/CSS/PHP other files?

I prefer jEdit, it has many useful options and plugins i.e. PHP Parser

  • For free editors I like PS Pad, lots of advanced features.

    editor PSPad - freeware HTML editor, PHP editor, XHTML, JavaScript, ASP, Perl, C, HEX editor

    I used to use Ultra Edit prior to that.

    • I like komodo edit. It's free and handles everything I need it to. It also has some extras like ftp,syntax highlighting, and auto completion.

  • Notepad 2.0 or Dreamweaver are the best!

  • I use gedit on Ubuntu for all my programming needs - works great and it's installed by default.

    • I still use Ultra Edit for most (especially when I need to quickly edit a file), but I've started using Eclipse for some things (java and php).
  • I use quite a few different editors. At the moment most of my projects all are simple projects, so I'm using tools like 'vi', 'TextMate', 'NetBeans', and 'Eclipse'.

    vi is my favorite with Dreamweaver in second place behind that.
  • I use notepad or Dreamweaver when I am going to edit and modify some codes on PHP, HTML and CSS.
  • Netbeans because of the PHP debugger (cross-platform ) and Coda or BBEdit on the Mac.

    • Komodo Edit and Eclipse are both spectacular IDEs. No hassle, great appearance and user interface, newbie friendly, and free
  • My favorite is Notepad++. Using Eclipse too.

  • I use TextPad - also great for list sorting.
  • DreamWeaver for web work. VIM for text editing.
  • I began using Artister about a year ago and found that I needed a good HTML editor to clean up and make changes to the HTML that artister created. I tried several editors, but really fell in love with Coffee Cup HTML Editor. It's not too expensive and has quite a few features that come in handy.

  • UltraEdit is my favourite editor to edit HTML/CSS/PHP and other files. It is simple to use and easy to understand. Also it has some essential features. It provides support for syntax highlighting, code folding, macros, and lots of similar features available to most of the rest.
  • Notepad++ is the one i use. It's lightweight, free and looks good. The tabs are organized and it supports plugins if you need them.
  • I use a Mac and have to say that I like Coda. However, I tend to use Komodo most of the time. It's more robust for PHP work.

    I've used the commercial version and it's great! But I'm not paying for upgrades every year, so I just use the free "Komodo Edit".
  • I use Coda but will have to try this Komodo Edit that you are talking about... what do you think it does better than Coda?

  • I use Boxer text editor but its not free. I was using notepad++ before which should still be free.

  • Eclipse .. covers almost ALL needs (php, html, css, javascript), has great code completion, great plugns (Database design, UML ,etc) and very nice integration of Subversoin.

    It's the swiss knif of progamming IMHO.

  • I'm a text editor guy, so Kate on Kubuntu and PSPad on Windows.

    Really anything that has good syntax highlighting, which most do these days, is a must.

    I must have some kind of strange phobia against any kind of IDE, but then I like to be at the "coal face" so to speak. Blame Frontpage, way back in the old days for that!

  • Eclipse for large projects and Notepad++ for quick things. I like eclipse because its fairly light weight and works well with a large variety of application development types. Also i like notepad++ because it is vary lightweight and i can quick get right into doing whatever i need to do.

    It supports tons of languages, it's light, it's fast, it has tons of features, it updates fast, it has windows context menu. It rocks.
  • This is a really convenient function that allows you to view and edit more text. It comes hand especially with the small screen of the iPhone. It is a feature carried over from the old CPM operating system days, and even though certain programming languages crash if a line of code is broken at the wrong place, there are other applications where word wrap is useful.
  • I use notepad++. Its nice and light weight. In addition you can use it for programming in almost any language known to man.
  • Yeah Notepad++ is the best html file editor I've come across ... it's lite and very easy to use with some really great features!!!

    • For larger projects I use NetBeans, since it has all the management features like subversion integrated.

      And for smaller, quick edits I use Notepad ++ just like many other people here on the thread.

      If you want to do specialized tasks you may want to look for special XML editors or CSS editors that provide you with nice drop-down menus etc.

  • For the text editor you can use dream-weaver.This is a great editor for web page creation.
  • It's all about gedit for me.
  • I'm like the rest of the choir and use Notepad++ with the Bespin style.
    For bigger projects I use Eclipse PDT with custom theme and Git as source control with Github.
    Git is managed using TortoiseGIT which is great.
  • For HTML and CSS I think that the best editor is and will always be Notepad++
